How Does MonaLisa Touch® Work?
Many women know MonaLisa Touch® can help with vaginal dryness, but what exactly is happening? Here's a closer look at how this innovative treatment works and what happens during your treatment.
What Happens During Treatment?
MonaLisa Touch® uses a specialized fractional CO₂ laser that is gently inserted into the vaginal canal. The treatment delivers controlled laser energy to the vaginal tissue in a precise pattern.
No cutting. No surgery. No tissue removal.
Instead, the laser creates thousands of microscopic treatment zones within the vaginal tissue that are controlled and intentional, signaling the body to begin a natural healing and regeneration process.
What Is The Laser Actually Stimulating?
When the body detects these microscopic treatment zones, it responds by increasing:
✔ Collagen production
✔ Blood flow to the tissue
✔ Cellular turnover and repair
✔ Tissue hydration
✔ Tissue elasticity
Think about how healthy skin repairs itself after a minor injury. MonaLisa Touch® works in a similar way. The body recognizes that tissue remodeling is needed and begins producing new, healthier tissue.
Why Does Collagen Matter?
Collagen is what gives tissue strength, flexibility, and structure. As estrogen levels decline, collagen production also decreases. This contributes to many of the changes women experience during menopause. By stimulating new collagen production, MonaLisa Touch® helps support vaginal tissue to be more elastic, better lubricated, healthier in appearance and function, and more resilient.
This is why the treatment is designed to address the underlying tissue changes associated with menopause rather than simply providing temporary symptom relief.
Does The Treatment Hurt?
One of the biggest surprises for many women is how comfortable the procedure is.
The treatment is often described as feeling like mild vibration or gentle pressure. To help maximize comfort, we also provide a topical numbing cream prior to treatment. The procedure is typically completed in just a few minutes during an office visit, allowing most women to return to their normal activities shortly afterward.
What Happens After The Procedure
Depending on the laser procedure, your doctor may recommend you refrain from sexual activity for 2-3 days. Generally, patients can return to normal activities afterwards. Your doctor will determine a post-procedure regimen that is right for you.
Why Are Multiple Treatments Recommended?
While some women notice improvement after their first session, MonaLisa Touch® works by gradually stimulating the body's natural regenerative processes. For that reason, treatments are typically performed as a series of one per month for three months, followed by maintenance treatments annually.
Working With Your Body, Not Against It
One of the reasons women are drawn to MonaLisa Touch® is that it works with the body's natural healing mechanisms. Rather than simply masking symptoms for a few hours, the treatment is designed to encourage healthier vaginal tissue over time. Thousands of women have chosen MonaLisa Touch since 2012
